Is Ask My Elf safe for kids?

Ask My Elf was built for kids ages 3 to 8, with safety filters in English and Spanish that block topics that aren't kid-appropriate and gently steer the chat back to friendly holiday topics. A parent sets everything up, a parent PIN is needed to leave the kid chat screen, and parents choose the hours the elf is available. Adult supervision is required.

What the safety filters block

Every message your child sends is checked before the elf answers. The filters work in English and Spanish, and they still catch words typed without accents. When something is blocked, the elf doesn't scold. It gives a friendly reply and changes the subject back to holiday fun.

  • Violence and scary themes
  • Body-part talk, romance and swearing
  • Drugs, bullying and self-harm
  • Requests for personal information
  • Keeping secrets from parents

The parent PIN keeps kids in the chat

Your child can talk with their elf, but they can't wander into parent settings or payment. A parent PIN is needed to leave the kid chat screen, to open parent settings, and to change things like the elf's voice. The PIN is checked on the server, not just on the device.

You decide when the elf is available

Parents set the days and times the elf can chat, in your family's time zone. Outside those hours the elf replies that it's busy, so a bedtime or school-morning chat simply doesn't happen. There are also built-in limits on very rapid messages.

Adult supervision is required

Ask My Elf is a family activity, not a babysitter. We ask that a grown-up stays nearby during chats, especially with younger kids. Many parents sit with their child for the first few chats, then stay within earshot after that.
